3 Reasons You SUCK at Poker

Ya, I said it. You suck at poker. Don't worry, though, as most everyone else does too. Did you know that 85% of online poker players lose money? That means less than 15% of players are actually making money. It's staggering really. At any given time on the most popular poker room online, there can be around 100,000 people logged into the site. 15,000 players are basically taking money from the other 85,000 players. Here's 3 reasons why.
The first one is the biggest and it trickles down to the next one. You've seen ESPN's converage of the World Series of Poker on tv. You think to yourself, hey, it doesn't look that hard. I could do that. Wrong! It's called the World Series of Poker where the best players in the world get together to hash it out on the felt. The majority of players you see on tv are professionals.
Do you know how long it takes to be a professional at something? The answer...A LONG TIME! Professional baseball, basketball and football players all work their way through the ranks to get to the professional level. Pro card players have played thousand upon thousand of hands, in both online and live games. It takes big time to make big money.
It's the same concept if you're, say, an accountant. You do that for a living and if so, you're probably pretty good at it. If a professional poker player tried to do your job, he'd probably suck it up too. It'd take time for him to learn how to do it properly.
Next, you probably bluff too much. This goes back to watching poker on tv. We've all seen guys playing crappy hands like 68 offsuit and winning. What you don't see are the 100 or more hands prior to that hand which tells that player it may be profitable to play a 6-8 offsuit in that certain situation.
Things like position, how many people are in the pot and what the others' playing styles are like all are taken into account by the guy playing that 68 off. Unless you know what you're doing, fold the 68 next time.
And finally, it's what else you're doing while you play. Do you have a tv on watching Law and Order or a football game? It's distracting and even having music on is distracting too. Are you tired or depressed about something? You just can't play right if you're not focused. And drinking alcohol, ugh, I've done it. It gives you superman disease; you play outside your limits, play bad hands, think, eh, it's only money and talk smack to other players. Stick to good ole water.

I spent the entire night thinking about what my son who is an online poker player told me. He said the best way for me to spend my time in retirement was to learn an online gambling game and play it for low stakes at one of the many web sites.

So I chose the very convenient Strategy trainer/free blackjack game to check out what I had understood so far. It was highly instructive as I kept playing and on my first test drive placing 100$ bets I played ten hands to check my proficiency. I won five and lost five hands, a 50% win record at the first attempt which can also be constituted as a 50% loss record, more a case of the glass being half full or...
The best part of the experience was that I had spent my morning hours in one place, not spent any money and had not got into anyone's face. While they are able to expand their hotels, build new restaurants and change the d?�cor of the casino, operators cannot add new table games or electronic gaming machines.
Casino operators in New Zealand must also take responsibility for the promotion of safe gambling among patrons. As such, operators must ensure that a wide range of literature is available to visitors, such as pamphlets that explain the odds of winning at particular games and information about how to recognize the signs of problem gambling. Additionally, all staff who come into direct contact with players must be able to identify problem gambling behaviour. Casinos are required to provide training for problem gambling awareness.

We have all heard about the house advantage in all the casino games, both online and off. But do you really know who has the advantage in which games?
Let's start with two simple questions:
What game does the casino make the most money on?
What game does the player have the best advantage?
Keep your answers in mind.
Smart players will know what to play and how to play. I was in Vegas one time with a friend who had never been before. Oh he had done some OTB play and poker with his buddies, that kind of thing, but never in a real casino. After we had been playing in the Luxor for a while, he came up to me very excited and said "Now I get it, you have to give 'em enough money before they let you win!" He had just won quite a bit at the roulette wheel. But of course he had made quite an investment before the win.
Believe it or not, many players play this way, making big bets time after time until they get a lucky hit. Some times they come out ahead, but a lot of time they wind up just breaking even or a little better.
So let's get back to our questions. What game did you say the house make the most money from?
If you said BlackJack you would be right. This is the house gravy money.

Surprise! BlackJack! Yep, number one for the player is BlackJack and number two is Craps!

I wrote this to make people realize that if they learn the games, and play the games where the player at least has a chance, they will come out a winner.
